SEE PHOTOS OF THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE FRANKENMUTH LIONS CLUB ON THE GALLERY PAGE

There are a number of great service clubs in Frankenmuth: a major one is the Frankenmuth Lions club. They have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to our community over their 55 years of existence and that is in addition to greatly assisting organizations and individuals with vision problems.

On February 4, 2009 the Frankenmuth Lions Club gathered at the Bavarian Inn to celebrate their 55 years of history and to especially recognize all past presidents of the club. The 55th celebration, called President¢s Night, was special in that all past presidents were publically recognized. A beautiful large walnut plaque engraved with the names of all the Lion presidents, beginning in 1953 to the present, was unveiled. This plaque will be on public display at Heritage Park in the Lions Haus.

Their rich and active civic-minded history included much assistance and/or donations to the city. In their beginning years, some of their projects included donating to the city Christmas decoration fund; building floats for the 4th of July parade, and sponsoring the Eagles Athletic Banquet. Later they liberally contributed to the City Beautification Committee, sponsored the Drum and Bugle Corps, and assisted high school students with both the Boys and Girls State experiences and college scholarships. They donated monies to the permanent Bicentennial Park, dismantled the deteriorating Memorial Park Shelter, and liberally contributed to restoring the Fischer Hall. Currently they continue to make donations and assist with city projects such as the recent renovations to the Heritage Park restroom project, the Kern Pavilion and the Wickson Library.
